Holidays via Ferry or Ferry Cruising

Like the trains a ferry isn't going to be the longest holiday you could book (check out cruises if you want a break on board) but I can make a boring road trip into something to remember. Ferries depart from all over the UK with trip to mainland Europe and Ireland an short hop away.

Even with the introduction of the tunnel the ferries are as popular as ever and of course now offering better value for money than ever before. Transporting the family has always been a problem especially on public transport when having to buy more than two tickets can make the costings a little hard to swallow, so the ever faithful car it is.

But theres the small problem of the english channel that can pose a problem for our 4 wheeled work horse. Unlike the tunnel the ferries offer something more than just transportation. With restaurants, onboard cinema, kids entertainment and dont forget spectacular views of the busiest sea lane in europe, using the ferry can be a welcome break on a long trip. A chance to set away from the car stretch your legs and sleep in a bed.

Trains
The train winds you through the countryside you love.

When you sail with DFDS Seaways you will experience a special maritime atmosphere, with professional staff and an international level of service. Many view us as the very best travel option, in terms of the range of services we offer for both passenger and vehicle transport.

For more than 139 years DFDS has been operating passenger ships between European cities, and it is now one of the biggest passenger shipping companies in Northern Europe.

We now operate six modern passenger ships, and measured in terms of overnight stays we are one of the biggest hotel chains in Scandinavia. With approx. 7,000 overnight stays per day during the summer season, we transport approx. 1.7 million passengers and approx. 200,000 vehicles on four routes between Denmark, Sweden, Holland, the UK and Norway.

EuroStar trains and travel

If you dont fancy the ferry, perhaps you've had thats sea sick feeling too many times then you can always take the tunnel

Eurostar has become the number one choice for trips on the London-Paris and London-Brussels routes. The latest available figures showed that Eurostar have a 66% share of the London-Paris rail/air route, compared with 13% for its nearest competitor, British Airways. On the London-Brussels route, Eurostar has increased its share to 48%, whereas all its competitors saw their share fall. Nearly 1.7 million customers traveled on Eurostar in the final quarter of 2003.

Eurostar is changing the way that people travel between Europe and the UK. With our new Channel Tunnel Rail Link that allows our trains to run at speeds of 186mph we've reduced return journey times by up to 40mins! And we're going to reduce this even further when works are completed on stage 2 of this programme. Eurostar directly links London, Ashford, Paris, Brussels, Lille, Avignon, Calais, Disneyland Resort Paris and the French Alps. You can also reach over 100 more destinations across France, Belgium*, the Netherlands and Germany with Eurostar Connections.
